Free Credit Reports

It irks us to death when we see all these ads on TV about free credit reports, for their real goal is to enroll you in expensive credit monitoring programs you really don’t need. To top it off, even we get calls from our banks and credit card companies trying to enroll us in those services.

Folks, you can get a free copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) once every 12 months at www.annualcreditreport.com. Stagger your reports and you can see what’s going on.

Furthermore, if someone tries to use your information for identity theft, the credit card companies are bound by law to help you out, and these services are not going to do anything that you couldn’t do yourself. Rethink those annual fees.
